ICTE-UEW Hosts Software Innovation and Technology Exhibition

Students displayed cutting-edge software and intelligent technologies at the Software Innovation and Technology Exhibition, hosted by the Department of ICT Education (ICTE) at the University of Education, Winneba (UEW). These technologies and software aim to revolutionize educational practices and address real-world problems.

At the show, a variety of state-of-the-art software programs were on show. These included the Staff Promotion System, which speeds up and enhances the accuracy of the staff promotion process, and the Student Clearance System. This digital platform facilitates online status checks and streamlines student clearance procedures. Two additional highlighted initiatives were the Student Attendance System, which easily tracks attendance using QR codes and facial recognition, and the Lab Management System, which efficiently manages laboratory supplies.

Students showcased smart objects designed to help people with disabilities in addition to software. Highlights included Smart Sticks with sensors to help visually impaired people navigate obstacles, Smart Dustbins with sensors to detect hazardous gases and open automatically, Smart Spectacles to help those with visual impairments, and Smart Shoes with technology integrated to improve mobility.

The moderator, Mr. Bismark Odum Sackey, a lecturer at the School of Communication and Media Studies, gave the introductory remarks for the event. From the early internet to the current era of artificial intelligence, technology has advanced quickly. He commented on this and emphasized the importance of the exhibition in demonstrating UEW students' inventiveness in creating useful software solutions.

UEW Vice-Chancellor Prof. Stephen Jobson Mitchual emphasized the value of practical ICT training while expressing a strong commitment to encouraging student creativity. In addition to highlighting the opportunity for cooperation between the ICT department and university administration to automate key institutional processes, he exhorted students to fully participate in their studies.

The head of the ICTE department, Dr. Delali Kwasi Dake, reiterated the department's commitment to innovation and adhering to global standards. He hoped that many of the innovations on display would soon be incorporated into the operations of the institution, noting that the department regularly turns out some of Ghana's best software engineers.

The UEW Director of IT Services, Dr. Augustine Money, praised the students for their ability to successfully connect theory to real-world applications. He urged them to carry on creating low-cost inventions that tackle urgent problems in the actual world.

In addition to showcasing the students' abilities, the exhibition reaffirmed UEW's dedication to encouraging creativity and hands-on learning in the ICT sector, guaranteeing that the university stays at the forefront of technological growth.
